Emergency Assistance

For emergency needs after hours, please call 2-1-1 to speak with a counselor about community resources or 9-1-1 for life-threatening situations.

When you call ECS, you reach a caring, well-informed counselor who is committed to answering questions and responding to requests for help. Some solutions are as simple as giving a caller the right phone number for a community resource, such as those listed in the Useful Links section of our website.

ECS can offer the following emergency or short-term help:

• Energy Assistance helps needy seniors pay utility or propane gas bills once during the summer and once during the winter. Fans and heaters are provided based on availability by donors.
• ECS Food Closet stocks essentials through donations of items such as Ensure, non-perishable foods and adult briefs for incontinence.
• Farmer’s Market Food Coupons are regularly available to allow for discounted purchases.
• Adaptive Equipment for Loan saves seniors the cost of purchasing items such as wheelchairs, walkers, shower chairs, bedside commodes and canes.
• Eye Glasses and Hearing Aid needs are coordinated through the Tallahassee Lions Club.
• Emergency Alert Response provides security by connecting isolated seniors with emergency services through Lifeline units placed in their homes.
